Telework Week Shows Teleworking is on the Rise – 39,000 Pledges Secured!

There’s no question that teleworking is gaining momentum.  And the benefits are vast.  In fact, businesses that let 100 employees work half of their time from home can save more than $1 million a year, according to Telework Research Network’s (TRN) latest study of telework programs and their benefits. Obama’s move to pass the Telework Enhancement Act of 2010 further underscores the potential.

To help promote the benefits of telework, Cisco recently partnered with Telework Exchange to support Telework Week from February 14-18.  The results were impressive and surpassed our expectations! With more than 39,000 pledges from participants, the preliminary statistics from the week further exemplify the benefits of Teleworking – $2,730,229 saved and 3,636,649 pounds of pollutants saved during the week.  Cisco and Telework Exchange will release a comprehensive report in March detailing the total impact of the Telework Week initiative on commuting costs nationwide.

So why are companies so enthusiastic about teleworking?

  • It enables business continuity at times when disruptions keep people from getting into the office
  • It allows for productivity, operational efficiencies, sustainability, and real estate savings
  • It helps in attracting new talent and retaining a knowledgeable workforce
  • It enables more work/life balance
  • It saves on commuter cost and reduces of traffic and greenhouse gas emissions
